About Me

My journey in Behavioral Health began as a Drug and Alcohol counselor, fueled by my own path to sobriety. This personal experience ignited a passion for helping others, leading me to pursue formal education and expand my expertise. Over the past 16 years, I've served as a counselor, coach, case manager, facilitator, and now, as an independently Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My experience spans diverse settings, including outpatient and residential facilities, hospitals, in-home services, and now, exclusively online through telehealth. I've worked with adults of all ages and developmental stages, as well as children and adolescents navigating the complexities of the foster system, probation and parole, and private practice.

This extensive experience has provided me with a profound understanding of the human experience, witnessing both the resilience and vulnerability of individuals. I approach therapy without judgment, focusing on helping you understand your driving forces and empowering you with options for a more fulfilling future.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in a systems perspective, recognizing that your choices are interconnected with your experiences and patterns. I believe, as Dr. Richard C. Schwartz articulates in 'No Bad Parts,' that there are valid reasons behind our thoughts and behaviors. By exploring these reasons, we can foster understanding and facilitate meaningful change.

I am a Level 1 trained therapist in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, which views the mind as comprised of various 'parts' with unique roles. By harmonizing these inner parts, we can achieve greater inner peace, which in turn positively impacts your interactions with others and your overall well-being. I also integrate evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and Somatic Experiencing (SE) techniques, tailoring my approach to meet your individual needs. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can gain insight into yourself and your relational patterns, develop practical strategies for change, cultivate self-compassion, and live a more fulfilling and compassionate life within your relationships, your own being, and your community. In 2025, my intention is to focus more deeply on the IFS Therapy Model. I honor the diverse values and belief systems that shape each individual's experience."

My Services

For my services I use 2 platforms.  My Cash Pay and Medicare Part B clients see me through the simple practice platform which has its own video/telehealth and Electronic Health Record system.  You can find this at https://waltercombslcsw.clientsecure.me/

For billing insurances, I use the Rula platform.  This uses ZOOM for video/telehealth appointments.  Rula maintains their own Electronic Health Care record system.  For a full list of the 50+ insurances I am contracted to serve through Rula, please explore https://www.rula.com/providers/CA/1376786582-walter-combs

Both of these platforms often indicate I am not accepting new clients.  That is because I tend to stay mindful of my work life balance.  I regularly save open times for client's or potential clients to contact me for a free 20 minute consultation.  If you believe I would be a good fit for your therapeutic needs please reach out on this website using the Contact page and we can set up a free 20 minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit and which platform would best service your needs.
