In The Present Moment (Mindful Monday)

Introduction:

In our busy lives, it's easy to function on autopilot, missing the beauty and wonder of the present moment. This meditation, inspired by the affirmation "I have eyes that can see and I know it," guides you to appreciate the gift of sight and awaken to the vibrant aliveness of the world around you.

Exercise:

  1. Settle in: Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Gently close your eyes or lower your gaze. Take a few deep breaths, allowing your body to relax.

  2. Appreciating Sight: Bring your attention to your eyes. Even with your eyes closed, acknowledge the gift of sight. Imagine the world in all its color and detail. If your eyes are open, take a moment to scan the room. Notice the shapes, colors, and textures.

  3. Tuning In: Allow your gaze to soften. Look through relaxed eyes, appreciating that you have eyes that can see. Feel the miracle of sight.

  4. Transformation: As you tune into seeing, notice how the present moment transforms. It becomes fresh, vibrant, and alive.

  5. Sense the Miraculous: In this present moment, with the gift of sight, sense the miraculous. Feel the world around you with your eyes.

  6. Affirmation: Silently repeat the affirmation, "I have eyes that can see and I know it." Feel the truth of this statement resonating within you.

  7. Deepen the experience: Take another moment to be grateful.

  8. Return: Gently bring your attention back to the room. Take a few deep breaths, and when you're ready, open your eyes. Carry this awareness of the present moment with you throughout your day.

Conclusion:

This simple exercise can help you shift from semi-automatic functioning to a more mindful appreciation of the world around you. By tuning into the gift of sight, you can experience the present moment in its full vibrancy and aliveness.
